For Consultants/Lawyers and Agents
Labour Shortage in Canada
As you may realize, Canada is a country where we are experiencing labour shortages in a variety of areas. In order to combat this shortage the government of Canada has made it easier for employers to hire foreign workers. With this in mind we have experienced an unprecedented influx of employers requesting to review resumes of individuals who may have the skills and disposition to become a contributing member of their companies. This has come from our past history as an experienced education and labour consultancy within Canada where we conducted training and labour consulting for programs with the federal government of Canada.
'Our Process and Information you should know'
We are very interested in working with you with in setting up a referral system where we could make potential employment opportunities available to your clientele. In order to begin this process, We would like to provide you with more detail about how our employer services, employee referral system operates.
- The salaries we recruit for are set at no less than the prevailing wage for the particular occupation as deemed by Canadian law. The following is the basic ranges. For non skilled the salary is between $11 - $17CND per hour. For skilled positions the salary is between $22 - $28CND per hour. Please note that skilled positions require certification along with a minimum 4 years experience in the job.
- Contracts are for a minimum 2 years. With Skilled positions, people have an option to stay on and immigrate to Canada under the PNP program. (Provincial Nomination Program for skilled workers)
- We make no claims as to guarantees that people will obtain job offers. We are a referral service and act on behalf of the employers we represent. In addition we do not collect any fees except for the persons registration. The registration is set as to discourage anyone who would not be committed to carrying through with accepting a potential job offer and come to work. We are only interested in working with individuals who would be of interest to the employers we work with Our fees are for processing and administration and are only charged once the person has accepted an employment offer and obtained a work permit to work. Therefore there is no risk on the part of the client which in turn fosters a relationship of trust between all parties involved. Secondly we have been working with organizations through-out the world under this system and it has worked very well for the simple reason that no one is assuming any financial risk for the process. In addition we understand that people may not want to pursue this potential opportunity for their clientele and we would understand if they chose not to.
- We work on behalf of our employers and prefer to work with credible organizations who understand their populations better then we could possibly do so. Also we have found that these organizations do a better job of vetting prospective candidates thus we present better qualified and more suitable people to our employers. Additionally if we ran ads in for Jobs in Canada that pay $27 per hour we would end up having to hire additional staff just to go through the amount of resumes and information. Obviously we would be inundated and the cost of vetting candidates would potentially become prohibitive.

Procedure
Procedurally speaking, we follow a fairly straight forward and simple process which is a follows:
- Resumes of potential candidates are sent to our processing centre in order to be edited for proper grammar and suitability to a North American Labour Market.(please note that the candidates contact information should not be on the resume)
- Should it be determined that a person€™s profile meets with the basic occupational standards, we will notify the referring agency that the individual is suitable for registration. (please note at that time a small registration fee will be due and payable)
- If required, at registration, the appropriate credentials will be requested if the individual is seeking an occupation which requires specific certification.
- The Candidate will be marketed to our employers and when an employer wishes to speak with them Life Long Ed will contact the agency and give them the contact information for the employer.
- Should the candidate be hired on landing in Canada the administration fee will become due and payable. The administration fee will be established between Life Long Ed and the referring agency.
Our Visits
At two points in the year we visit the countries where we recruit from and provide training sessions to interested candidates on obtaining employment in Canada. These sessions have been well received in the past as it allows candidates an opportunity to meet with a Canadian recruiter and ask questions. In addition, it tends to help agencies with their internal domestic recruiting and helps to raise their profile in their respective market places. In the training sessions we cover the following information:
- About all the different types of jobs which are in demand in Canada
- How to find Canadian employers looking to Hire people from overseas
- How to make a resume for a Canadian Employer
- How to interview for a Canadian Employer
- How to interview with Canadian officials for a Work Visa (All the steps involved)
- How to prepare to come to Canada to work
We hope this clearly identifies the how Life Long Ed employer services works with referring agencies and we hope to start an effective and beneficially working relationship for all parties involved in this process.
